When you hear anyone say "I'm no good at English," what he or she really means is . . . "I'm no good at thinking straight, I can't talk sense."
Hall of SPAM: Total HR
Submitted by robin on Wed, 2009-11-11 16:33.I have a personal email address here at felix.org that I've used since 1996. It's never been used, EVER, for e-commerce or business -- it's strictly for friends and acquaintances. Therefore, any UCE/UBE I receive at that address is by definition, SPAM, and any businesses contacting me via that address have gotten it by nefarious means and are therefore members of the Hall of SPAM.

Ideas Like Knives
Submitted by robin on Fri, 2009-08-28 07:58.An idea like a knife has an edge, sometimes sharp, sometimes dull, representing its form and substance. The content of the idea is its substance, the material of the knife; its presentation is the form, or the sharpness of the knife blade.
An idea whose substance is sound but whose presentation is poor has power, but it is a dull, pounding power. An idea whose presentation is brilliant but which lacks substance also has power, but it is brittle and easily broken. A sound idea brilliantly presented cuts most deeply.

Submitted by robin on Sat, 2009-08-15 14:28."White Man, I am an unhappy prince. Years ago I went in search of The Sleeping Beauty, whom I had read of in a book. And having traveled through the world many days, I at last found her and kissed the lady very gently to awaken her -- as the book said I should. 'Tis true indeed that she awoke. But when she saw my face she cried out, 'Oh, he's black!' And she ran away and wouldn't marry me -- but went to sleep again somewhere else. So I came back, full of sadness, to my father's kingdom. Now I hear that you are a wonderful magician and have many powerful potions.

Submitted by robin on Sat, 2009-08-15 14:24.Now the Sultan Schahriar had a wife whom he loved move than all the world, and his greatest happiness was to surround her with splendor, and to give her the finest dresses and the most beautiful jewels. It was therefore with the deepest shame and sorrow that he accidentally discovered, after several years, that she had deceived him completely, and her whole conduct turned out to have been so bad, that he felt himself obliged to carry out the law of the land, and order the grand-vizir to put her to death.
